The upper section of the Poprad River is a quintessential trout stream, winding through a forested landscape nestled beneath the Tatras. Further downstream, the river’s urban stretch transitions into a well-maintained trout fishery, home to stocked rainbow and brown trout. Vah River

Originating in the High and Low Tatras and flowing into the Danube, the Váh River spans an impressive 406 km. Together with the adjacent Lake Bešeňová, it offers incredible opportunities to catch trophy rainbow trout and huchen, with large brown trout and grayling also being common prizes. Despite its size, the river remains highly wadeable in designated fishing sectors, making it ideal for dry fly fishing during the hatches.

Where to fish and when?

Slovak rivers are categorized into Trout and Grayling sections, each featuring designated catch-and-release and catch-and-take areas. Many of these rivers are perfect for wading, though some present unique challenges when it comes to casting into the prime spots.

Trout rivers are opened for anglers form April 15 until October 1, and grayling sectors can be fished from April 15 until December 31 each year.
