About Revúca Lodge

Born from a shared passion for fly fishing

Revúca Lodge is the result of a friendship, a shared passion for fly fishing, and a dream that unexpectedly became reality.

René Koops and Ab Olde-Scheper are friends and passionate fly fishermen, both on the competition circuit and whenever they get the chance to fish simply for the pleasure of it.

Ab lives in Slovakia and, after taking up competitive fly fishing and being selected for the Dutch National Fly Fishing Team, began training with René, an experienced international competition angler and coach. René's visits to Slovakia became more frequent, combining serious training sessions with exploring the country's rivers and enjoying the fishing together.

During one of those trips, they came across a beautiful piece of land with two old houses directly on the banks of the Revúca River, one of their favourite trout and grayling streams in northern Slovakia.

Standing there beside the river, they started dreaming out loud.

By the end of that same day, the decision had been made.

They would turn the two old houses into a fly-fishing lodge: a place where they could share their passion with friends, teammates and fellow fly fishermen from around the world.

From two old houses to a fly-fishing home

The reconstruction transformed the two traditional houses into a comfortable and welcoming fishing lodge accommodating 8–10 guests.

The idea was never to create a conventional hotel. Instead, Revúca Lodge was designed as a home base for fly fishermen.

The river is literally just steps away, while some of Slovakia's best-known trout and grayling waters—including the Váh, Turiec and other rivers of the region—are within easy reach.

The lodge offers comfortable bedrooms, modern bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen and relaxed communal living areas. And because fly fishing doesn't necessarily stop when you leave the river, there is a dedicated fly-tying garage where guests can prepare for the next day's fishing, exchange ideas and tie the patterns that are working locally.

We don't operate as a hotel or restaurant and therefore don't provide dinner service. Instead, guests have the freedom of a private lodge, with everything needed to cook, relax and make themselves at home.

For those who want some extra help, we can arrange guided fishing, fly-fishing instruction and competition-focused training. Rods and waders can be rented, and we can provide advice—and flies—based on what is currently working on the local rivers.

Experience on the water

René brings decades of competitive fly-fishing experience to the lodge. He is a multiple Dutch champion and represented the Netherlands at numerous European and World Championships.

Among the highlights of his international career are becoming FIPS-Mouche Masters World Champion and later adding an individual World Championship bronze medal.

Ab came to competitive fly fishing much later. In his first competitive season, he won silver at the Dutch River Fly Fishing Championship as well as silver at the Dutch Pike Fly Fishing Championship, performances that helped earn him selection for the Dutch World Championship team.

But Revúca Lodge isn't really about medals.

It's about the reason René and Ab started fishing in the first place: beautiful rivers, wild fish, good company and the endless challenge of becoming a better fly fisherman.

Both can regularly be found fishing the rivers surrounding the lodge—testing flies, exploring new stretches, training or simply enjoying a few hours on the water. That local knowledge and experience is something they are always happy to share with their guests.

Revúca Lodge is our fishing home in Slovakia.

And when you stay with us, we'd like it to feel a little like yours too.
